Through the Celiac Journey - you are never alone.
1 min read
When I shared my celiac journey recently, I wasn’t prepared for how emotional it would be — not just for me, but for the people who’ve quietly supported me from the beginning. I thought I already knew my story inside out. I thought I had processed everything. But hearing others talk about what they went through while helping me adjust added a layer I never expected. It wasn’t just my journey after all — it was theirs too.
Sometimes we forget that the people who love us are also trying their best to understand. They’re adjusting with us, worrying with us, learning alongside us — even if they don’t always get it right, eh, neither do we sometimes. Because we’re so focused on surviving the whirlwind of symptoms, restrictions, and lifestyle changes, we don’t always see the effort happening quietly in the background.
There were days I felt completely alone, even while surrounded by the people I loved most. Days when explaining what I needed felt exhausting. Days when saying “No, I can’t eat that” felt like a burden — a reminder of how much my life had changed and how much everyone else had to adjust too.
But looking back, I realised something important: I was never truly alone.
Someone was always there, cheering me on in ways that didn’t demand attention — making sure the food was safe, reading labels with me, asking questions, checking in, creating space for me to process all the complicated feelings. They weren’t loud about their support. They didn’t always know the right words. But they showed up anyway. And that mattered more than anything.
These quiet gestures reminded me that I had "my people". They are those that see me — really see me — and choose to walk beside me even when the path is unfamiliar. It’s those who listened without judgment, who made time even when life is busy, who tried even when the process was, and still is, confusing.
Their quiet love carried me through more than they will ever realise.
And if you’re starting or navigating your own celiac journey — especially in a world where food is culture, connection, and comfort — I hope you remember this:
You are never alone.
Your people might be quieter than you expect, but they’re there.
And you deserve every bit of support, understanding, and care along the way.
